Thank you to the 20 people who supported the orchid count on 28 June and achieved a great result, this year 3574 Pyramidal orchids were recorded(864 last year), 129 Common Spotted orchids(0 last year) and 15 Bee orchids which have not been seen on the Hill since 2014.
The hay cutting followed by baling and harrowing in late last year will have helped create micro sites of bare ground to assist colonisation and germination.
It is planned to cut, bale and harrow again this year with the bales going to the Cavalier Riding for the Disabled Centre just outside of Much Wenlock.
Please see photographs taken on the day of the 3 orchids recorded. The first is the bee orchid, common spotted and at the bottom the pyramidal.
We will publish the date of the orchid count for 2020 and do please come along and support us.
