The Town Council is responsible for the following assets:
The Corn Exchange, a Grade II Listed building and the Town Council’s office
The Guildhall, a Grade II* Listed building
The Pound
A Memorial Clock in the Square
The cemetery, including a lychgate and chapel, and a cemetery field currently used for allotments
The Memorial Hall, the town’s museum
Other assets include:
- Linden Lodge
- The Gaskell Recreation Ground
- 10 High Street
- Two bus shelters
- 134 street lights and other street furniture
Tangible assets include civic regalia and some fine furniture, including a 17th century cabinet, and a herbarium containing a collection of 324 pressed and dried botanical specimens which belonged to the late Dr. William Penny Brookes.
